Maya Wetzel stands as one of HSE’s most esteemed senior athletes, a shining star on the girls’ tennis team whose journey has been marked by strong dedication and remarkable growth. With six years of tennis progress under her belt, Wetzel has become a powerful force on the court, her skills grew and increased with each season. As she arrives on her final season in high school, Wetzel’s journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and passion for the sport she loves. Wetzel is a huge inspiration to her teammates and the underclassmen following in her steps.
For Wetzel, tennis is more than just a sport, it is a family tradition. Wetzels journey onto the court was natural influenced by her family ties. Yet, it was her mother who appeared as her guiding light, being there for maya’s passion for the sport and recognizing her talents from the very beginning. Wetzels mother has been her constant companion, mentor, and coach throughout her early age. With every swing of the racket, Wetzel carries her family’s legacy and love for the sport.
This year Wetzel has had many highlights. She says the “biggest highlight of my season was during the Noblesville game victory and Brownsburg during conference tourney.” She shares that showing up in preseason and going to team bonding activities has helped her improve her skill and her relationships the most throughout this season. One of the most important lessons Wetzel has learned from her career is the importance of perseverance and resilience. She learned to dig deep and put all effort towards overcoming challenges, showing great sportsmanship and determination.
Next year Wetzel plans to go to IU to study marketing and hopes to participate in club tennis there.
