SSN: Crossing Sticks with a State Champion
March 19, 2022
Varsity boy’s lacrosse captain, senior Quincy Grace mic’ed up during practice as the boys prepare for their weekend in Cleveland. The boys fought a hard battle in both games, but unfortunately fell short to both of their opponents.
They plan to bounce back Friday March 18 against the Carmel Greyhounds. Being the 2021 lacrosse State Champions, the competition is much tougher. Each opponent they go up against wants bragging rights to say ‘we beat the state champions,’ so a lot is on the line and every game counts.
Star player AND captain, Quincy Grace is more than dedicated to the sport, his coaches, and most importantly his teammates.
“The bond between my teammates and I is unbreakable,” Grace said. “I have been playing with majority of them since 3rd grade, and they will be my life long friends.”
Grace’s teammate, junior Gavin Berry adds, “Over the past years we’ve built a brotherhood. We have each other’s back on and off the field. This makes playing lacrosse extremely fun because I know my brothers have my back no matter what happens on or off the field.”
The grind and dedication that comes with playing lacrosse at Hamilton Southeastern High School is unimaginable.
“Three words I would use to describe lacrosse are fast, physical, and mental,” Grace said. “What inspires me to play lacrosse at Hamilton Southeastern High School is everyone in our program. From the coaching staff to the players, everyone is bought in, and I think that is the most important part of a team.”
Lots of memories are made through sports and teams, especially for Quincy Grace.
“My favorite lacrosse memory over the last four years was beating Carmel in state,” Grace said. “Nothing beats being the last team standing and spending the most time together before the season is over. This year, we have the ability to do something no HSE lacrosse team has ever done, and that is to go back to back. If we continue to work and support each other, anything will happen.” Story by Izzy Kistler.
