Colts Take Kwity Paye 21st Overall
Who is Kwity Paye, and why is he deserving of the 21st pick?
April 9, 2021
April 29th marked the start of the 2021 NFL Draft held in Cleveland Ohio. This year, the Indianapolis Colts had their first selection of the evening with the 21st overall pick in the first round. The team desperately needed one of three positions entering the draft, and edge rusher, offensive tackle, or a wide receiver. With the retirement of left tackle Anthony Castonzo after the previous season, many expected to team to go with a tackle to replace the veteran. However, with many of the top tier lineman going early to teams like the Lions, Chargers, and the Jets the Colts had very few options at that position. Lucky for the Colts, Michigan’s defensive end Kwity Paye fell deep into the draft. The Michigan senior had a fantastic season to say the least. In only four games, Paye had 12 solo tackles, about have as he did the year before in 1/3 of the time. In addition Kwity also had two sacks and four tackles for a loss. In his Junior season, playing in 12 games Paye had 50 total tackles and six and a half sacks. It is obvious that Paye’s presence is felt on the field. He should fit in perfectly into this Indianapolis Colts team that has focused on the defensive side of the ball over the course of the past few seasons under general manager Chris Ballard. Now Paye joins top tier players such as DeForest Buckner and Darius Leonard on this high ranked Indianapolis Colts defense. In addition to Paye the Colts also drafted DE Dayo Odeyingbo and S Shawn Davis on the defensive side of the ball. With these additions to the Colts already solid defense this team should have a good year ahead of them is the offense can keep up with the pase. Story by Keegan Stein
