For the Love of the Game
HSE baseball player learns to adapt to HSE after moving from Hawaii by focusing on the game he loves.
From the crack of the bat, to the cheers of the crowd, to the seventh inning stretch, baseball is America’s pastime. While moving from the sandy beaches and pacific air of Hawaii to the snow and the lush green grass of Indiana, Henry Kerr has used baseball as a constant. Henry Kerr is a native Hawaiian who breathes, eats, and sleeps baseball. After his move from Oahu to Fishers, the Sophomore who plays catcher has adjusted to HSE through baseball and his love of the game.
“Obviously changing schools is hard, in fact, it’s one of the hardest things you can do.” Kerr said, “In general, I like baseball because of the absolute characters you meet, whether it’s the cocky kid at shortstop or the caveman at first base, you’re bound to meet some pretty cool guys.”
Kerr loves baseball and while he hasn’t been in HSE for all that long, Kerr has already made an impression on his coaches.
“Henry’s handled himself well as he’s come into our program” HSE Coach Jeremy Sassanella said, “He’s really come in strong, built some friendships, and showed that he’s very focused on being coachable and the best he can be.” Sassanella also said, “He’s really come in strong, built some friendships, and showed that he’s very focused on being coachable and the best he can be.”
Kerr is humble in his play but is also incredibly confident in himself. As a Sophomore catcher, Kerr looks to keep impressing this year. He also commented on how baseball made his transition easier.
“HSE baseball has made my transition into the school system exponentially easier,” Kerr said, “I started practicing with them about six month ago, and they’ve taken me in with open arms and supported me the whole way.”
As the baseball season approaches, Kerr looks to continue his transition to HSE. With his love of the game, Kerr will make his transition very well. Story by Tristan Fluhr
