HSE Clubs
HSE’s clubs are categorized below into three groups (Academic, Service, Interests), followed by the name(s) of the club’s sponsor(s) and a short description.
Academic
Academic Math Team: Mary Carson, Naomi Jackson
Students who are interested in socializing with others while problem-solving compete in competitions. Students who are active members of the team are eligible for Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honorary.
Academic Speech and Debate Team: Kristen Carwile, Robert Hinshaw
Students compete in categories such as dramatic interpretation, humorous interpretation, discussion, poetry, original oratory and impromptu in 3-6 meets a year.
Academic Team: Sandra Riley, Liz Clark, Andrea Byers
The Academic Team consists of Quiz Bowl, Spell Bowl and Super Bowl (English, math, social studies, fine arts) and allows students to compete based on their strengths.
DECA: Kristin Lidstrom, Adam Broughton
Students are given the opportunity to broaden business skills and interests through club meetings and district/state/national business competitions.
Destination Imagination: Kathy Seitz
DI is a creative, problem-solving academic team that competes in regional, state and global competitions. Six internationally published challenges are solved through creativity, problem-solving and teamwork.
Mock Trial Team: Janet Chandler
Students must audition to participate in this team. Members participate in county, regional, state and national competitions. Students enjoy acting, public speaking and law.
Model UN: Annie Gowland, Kelsey Habig
Model UN is a simulation of the United Nations in which students are able to debate, negotiate and resolve world issues. Working together or against each other, students write resolutions attempting to solve the issue.
Robotics Club: Jeff Wilkins, Joshua Gish
Students are able to design, build, program and test robots using the VEX Platform. Competitions are held and no experience is necessary.
Royal Med: Erin Gastineau, Ashley Heckley
Royal Med strives to allow students with medical aspirations to collaborate with peers who are interested in the same field.
Service
ASL Club: Karen Colvin
ASL members are involved in activities that promote deaf awareness, practice signing and fundraise for the Indiana School for the Def.
Best Buddies: Risa Petty
A special education student is paired with a general education student in a one-on-one friendship. Volunteers offer a buddy a chance to feel included at school and in school environments.
Environmental Club: Kacy Brobst
Students promote environmentally-friendly lifestyles and seek to educate others at the school about current environmental issues.
Future Farmers of America: Samantha Miller, Tom Younts
FFA provides opportunities for students in leadership and career success. Students compete in contests, volunteer their time to
Interact Club: Gaye Garrett
Sponsored by the Fishers Rotary Club, Interact Club offers students the opportunity to become involved in service opportunities in the school, community and with an international focus.
Key Club: Sarah Chattin, Ken Link
Key Club is an organization that sponsors school blood drives, hosts Melanoma Awareness Week and raises funds for UNICEF.
Make-A-Wish Club: Cathy Cohoat
Based off of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the club helps raise funds for the foundation in order to give sick children opportunities to have their dreams come true.
National Honor Society: Amy Shipley, Jill McGrath
National Honor Society rewards students for their academic achievements and service to the community. Students must apply at the end of their sophomore/junior year, and their application will be reviewed by a faculty
Project H.O.P.E: Audrey Pattern
This club is dedicated to helping students at HSE. The objective is to help students prosper through donations and other necessities.
Riley Dance Marathon: Elizabeth Trinkle, Dana Simmons
RDM is a service organization dedicated to raising money for Riley Children’s Hospital in memory of former HSE student Matthew Springer. A variety of fundraisers are held, culminating the marathon in the spring.
Student Council: Emily Curnow, Hannah Hunt, Devan Mathias
Student Council is an opportunity for HSE students to be the voice of the school. Members are involved in service opportunities, planning the homecoming dance and running the annual food drive.
Interests
Arts & Crafts Club: Lindsay Mahan
Students come together to have fun and create. A new craft is selected each month and students work on the craft while socializing after school.
Black Student Union: Jagga Rent
BSU’s purpose is to educate and celebrate black culture. Current events and issues are discussed.
Book Club: Karin Foster
Students read and discuss various books and take part in literary activities to promote recreational reading.
Bowling Club: Andrea Byers
Bowling Club meets at Pinheads twice a week to practice and competes in multiple competitions.
Career Club: Eric Rosenbaum
Students who are searching for a career they may be interested in listen to speakers who discuss their career with the club. Students gain a better understanding of what direction they want to take after graduation.
Computer Club: Julie Alano
Computer Club provides opportunities for boys and girls to learn about computer programming and informatics. Competition opportunities are available, as well as opportunities for group projects.
Conspiracy Theory Club: Patty Kulesavage
Students discuss different beliefs of events that have occurred in history.
Drama Club: Mary Armstrong
Drama Club sponsors the fall play and spring musical, while exposing students to theatre.
Film Club: Jamie Follis
Members watch, critique and discuss the genres, directors, styles, process and art of films. Students also create a short, student-made film and have it judged and shown at a student film festival.
Friendship Bracelet Club: Kelli Hanes
Members socialize while creating friendship bracelets together.
Gay/Straight Alliance: Shawn Porter, Dana Simmons, Kim Bakle
GSA is open to any student who wishes to be in a club that supports diversity. Club members learn about national and local issues concerning the LGBT community.
Harry Potter Club: Peter Salvadori
Harry Potter Club partakes in activities that focus on the magical world from J.K Rowling’s famous series.
Idea Club: Kelsey Habig
Idea Club encourages innovative ingenuity in collaboration with Launch Fishers.
Military History Club: Jason Marer
Military History Club meets to discuss history in the U.S. military, as well as militaries around the world. Students put together presentations and engage in debates.
Muslim Student Association: Wafa Safi-Hassan
MSA is devoted to creating a sense of community for Muslim students through activism and service. The members educate Muslims and students of other faiths about Islam and how to facilitate a better school environment.
Olio Road Productions: Jamie Follis
A student-run film studio, Olio Road Productions uses HSE facilities and talents from the student body to create an original feature film. Students write the script, cast roles, shoot the film, edit the footage, etc. The finish project is premiered in the school year.
Project 7: Karen Colvin
This club focuses on socializing among Christians, learning about God and supporting each other along the journey.
Philosophy Club: Brian Pletcher
Students study great philosophers, world views and world religions based on their own belief system. Open discussion, Socratic dialog and healthy debates take place.
Political Discussion Club: Jason Marer
Students of all political ideologies meet to discuss and debate current events and politics. Each meeting focuses on a particular issue for the students to discuss.
Royal Students For Life: Lindsey VanGroningen, Emily Kitchen, Kelly Wagoner
This club promotes a culture of life among students. RSFL aims to create a pro-life culture at HSE, while educating peers about issues related to the pro-life movement.
Royal Yogis: Karin Foster
Royal Yogis meet every Tuesday until 4:15 in the library’s Mindful Room to practice yoga, opening the mind, heart and body.
Ski/Snowboarding Club: Kim Beaulieu, Jerry Davis, Tish McCallister
This club travels to Perfect North ski resort four times during January, open to new and experienced skiers.
Star Wars Club: Jamie Follis
Star Wars Club brings students together who share a love of Star Wars. The students participate in events and discussions involving Star Wars, while exploring various aspects of Star Wars and the deeper side of the films.
TCG & Board Games: Jason Marer
Members of this club are interested in trading card games or board games. The club has occasional tournaments for certain games.
Video Game Club: Keaton Squires
For all the gamers in the school, Video Game Club hosts many in-school tournaments and has a competitive gaming team.
World Connections Club: Vickie Lazaga
Members of WCC sponsor several activities involving foreign exchange students to welcome them to America and learn about their countr. Activities include sponsoring a South American child, participating in the Renaissance Fair and trips to foreign restaurants.
X2: Brenda Barrett
X2 is an open forum club where students can discuss issues pertaining gender equality. Members discuss a different topic at each meeting, usually something going on currently in the world.
