Boosting Communities through Service
The central component of Key Club is bettering communities through public service. Junior Ethan Nixdorf has gone beyond the club’s minimum requirement of sixteen points, which can be earned through attending meetings and serving the community, and has accumulated a total of forty-three points, more than any member of the club. Through Key Club, Nixdorf has been affected in multiple ways.
“Key Club has impacted me in many ways,” Nixdorf said. “I have been able to meet so many people who love to volunteer just as much as I do. Also, it has really opened my eyes to see how not everyone is given the same opportunities or lifestyle I have been given. It has also made me even more grateful for the life that I have and all of the opportunities that I have received.”
Other Key Club members have gone past the minimum amount of points needed as well.
“Students that go over the required 16 points for Key Club show just how impactful they are to our community,” Kenneth Link, one of Key Club’s sponsor teachers, said. “Ethan is truly making an impact in the City of Fishers with the amount of volunteer work that has made a difference on not only organizations in our community, but with individual citizens as well.”
Nixdorf, who also served as a committee head for two Key Club sponsored fundraisers, has seen the effects his service has had around him and has gained a positive understanding of boosting communities through serving others.
“I believe that community service effects a community in a really positive way,” Nixdorf said. “Whether it is doing a big service project or just a little thing to help the school, a little goes a long way.” Story by Hayden Sisemore. Photo contributed by keyclub.org.
