“La La Land” Takes Award Season
This award season, “La La Land,” directed by Damien Chazelle and starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, has already begun to rack up awards. Tallying a total of six awards at the Golden Globes and fourteen Academy Award nominations, the movie has gained a massive amount of hype behind it, despite it standing out from the other best picture nominees as the only musical.
“Of course, it’s a major outlier because of the fact that it’s a musical,” junior Sophia Romaine said. “But it has got a huge following compared to the other movies.”
Romaine believed the movie was excellent, and recommended it to people that wanted the movies they saw to have an impact on them.
“I would recommend it for the reason that it’s awesome,” Romaine said. “It’s one of the only movies this year that’s stuck with me, even weeks after I’d watched it. It’s magical and extremely well done in every category.”
The movie is not just gaining the respect of Romaine though, with a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, 93% on Metacritic and 8.6/10 on IMDB, its obvious that many people are enjoying “La La Land.” Romaine thought this was because of many different aspects of the movie that appealed to her, as well as others.
“I think there are so many aspects of the movie that are appealing to several different audiences,” Romaine said. “The music, the cinematography, the stars and the plot. Everything is just at the highest quality.”
Fans of the movie are hoping that “La La Land” rakes in as many awards at the Academy Awards as it did at the Golden Globes, and the huge following behind the movie are campaigning this support by social media, (the movie has over 50 thousand followers on Twitter), and by word of mouth.
“I hope that it’s able to rack up as much as it did in the Golden Globes,” Romaine said. “It truly does deserve all the hype it has been getting.” Story by Makenna Sisemore.
