At last, the annual Mr. Royal event is here. The mock beauty pageant starring senior boys will take place on Thursday, January 26 at 7. Tickets are sold today during lunch for $8 and $10 at the door.
“[Mr. Royal] is a show for guys at HSE to showcase many different talents, from singing to cooking to dancing,” contestant senior Kip Tousell said.
The show is made up of 12 participants, along with a few outside talent acts. These acts include a dance and a singing performance.
“I think the show is going to be good because of the guys are super talented and funny,” costume committee head junior Courtney Kocal said. “They are all extremely motivated to have a great show.”
The annual show is put on by the members of NHS. All of the proceeds from the show go to support Riley Children’s Hospital, a cause HSE is known for supporting over the years.
“All week, the guys in the show carry around red buckets for Riley so people can donate at any time,” contestant senior Riley Spilker said. “It’ll be a good night for a good cause with a lot of good people.”
The theme of this event is Mr. Royal’s Birthday Bash. The birthday theme coincides with HSE’s 50th anniversary. According to Kocal, the show will include cake props, ribbons and a secret surprise.
“I think the decorations are great and will help the show be a success,” Kocal said.
The participants started practicing a group dance for the show last week. The boys spend between an hour and two hours preparing for the show each week.
“[My favorite part is] the people that I get to work with,” Spilker said. “We have a lot of fun and it makes the process a lot of fun.”
