Prom, which will be held on Saturday, April 18 at the Egyptian Room at Old National Centre in Indianapolis, is the culmination of months of planning. Class officers decided on details such as potential themes, and working with budgets.
In the spring, Royals scoured malls for the perfect tuxedos, dresses, shoes and corsages. Due to the costs and potential hassle of preparation, some students prefer to skip prom; others find a happy medium and decrease costs where they can.
“My mom did my hair and makeup, the dress was a bridesmaid dress that I borrowed from my mom,” senior Christine Scott said. “[Still,] the tickets were expensive for two people.”
Scott attended prom last year and plans to go again, despite the cost.
“[I don’t mind the cost because] it pays for the materials and venue to look nice so people can have a good time,” Scott said. “My favorite part about prom [last year] was the food and dancing.”
Even though there are ways to decrease the price of attending prom, those who like to go “all-out” can expect the expenses to add up quickly.
