Basic-ness refers to teenage girls conforming to specific trends in society. The typical basic girl drinks Starbucks, wears Ugg boots, takes lots of selfies for Instagram, wears leggings and watches Netflix, to name a few. Because it is such a general concept, not everyone defines basic-ness the same way.

“To me a basic girl is a female who just follows along the train of other females. Like I would see a girl with a nice scarf, and think ‘hey, that’s actually cute. I think I’m going to buy one today,’” senior Taylor Wilikins said.

Senior Sommr Powell adds, “A basic girl to me would have the average female desires. A boyfriend, cosmetics, likes to eat Chipotle, drinks Starbucks of course,follows the updated trends, and somehow finds a way in gossip.”

To sum it all up, basic girls believe that the trend of fashion, the latest gossip and the reality of relationships are key factors in every girls’ life.
