Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 Vaccine on Pause

Jodi Herd, Writer

The Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine was recommended to stop being in use in the United States as of yesterday April 13th, 2021 by the CDC and FDA. The cause of this is because, over the 6.8 million doses that have been administrated in the United States, six cases were reported to have caused a rare and server type of blood clot. The six cases that have been reported have occurred among women who are the age of 18 and 48 years old, symptoms have shown in those who have taken the vaccine between 6 to 13 days after the vaccination has been administrated. People who have taken the Johnson & Johnson vaccine are encouraged to contact their healthcare provider if they have experienced any of the following symptoms such as server headaches, abdominal pain, leg pain, or shortness of breath; after three weeks of having their vaccination. The possible reason behind the blood clotting that is caused by the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, is because this particular vaccine is an adenovirus vector vaccine. This vaccine is the same type of vaccine that is being used by European countries, which is called the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Since the announcement from both the CDC and FDA, mass vaccination sites and community health centers that were administrating the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will stop using this vaccination until further notice.
